Every day at 10.00 am (except Monday and Tuesdays), the passenger ship Stena Saga bows out of Frederikshavn heading for Oslo in Norway. The trip from North Jutland in Denmark to the Norwegian capital takes about 8 hours and 30 minutes, and arrives in Oslo at 18.30. On Mondays, Stena Saga departs Frederikshavn at 18.30. However, in the high season from mid June to mid August, the ship departs Frederikshavn every day of the week at 10.00 am.
Stena Saga is the largest passenger ship in the Stena Line fleet with room for more than 2.000 passengers and up to 510 cars. The ferry offers a variety of different restaurants, bars and other kind of entertainment on board. One of the major attractions on board is the possibility to shop tax free, which can be done since Norway is not a member of the European Union.
The Frederikshavn-Oslo ferry is extremely popular among Norwegian tourist, visiting Denmark in the summertime. In the winter months, the traffic goes in the other direction, when many Danes head to Norway to enjoy the skiing in the Norwegian mountains.
One of the highlights by sailing to Oslo is the beautiful trip through the narrow but deep Oslo Fjord, where you can enjoy views of the rocky Norwegian landscape on both sides of the ferry. The Stena Line Terminal in Oslo is located at Vippetangen, just a short walk from Downtown Oslo.
Besides Stena Lines route from Frederikshavn to Oslo, Color Line and Fjord Line is operating ferry routes from Jutland to Norway. Color Line is operating the Hirsthals-Larvik and the Hirtshals-Kristiansand routes, while Fjord Line is operating a summer route from Hirtshals to Kristiansand and the all year route Hirtshals-Stavanger-Bergen.
